Agent Who Accused Trump Ally of Working with Russia Is Arrested by FBI for Stealing Files

Remember when the FBI was playing politics instead of fighting crime? For years before President Trump’s return to the White House, federal agents were busy hunting down his allies on various trumped-up charges while ignoring real threats to America. The bureau seemed more interested in creating “Russian collusion” narratives than protecting our nation from actual dangers.

One such crusader was FBI Special Agent Jonathan Buma, who made quite a name for himself claiming that Trump ally Rudy Giuliani was potentially “compromised” by Russian intelligence operators. Buma even filed “whistleblower” statements with Congress detailing his supposed concerns about Russian influence.

That same former FBI agent was arrested Monday at JFK International Airport while attempting to board an international flight, according to court documents filed Tuesday. The timing couldn’t be more suspicious – Buma had submitted his resignation letter to the bureau just one day before trying to flee the country.

From Russia With Love…of Classified Documents

From ‘Daily Caller’:
On Oct. 27, 2023, Buma allegedly printed around 130 files from the agency’s internal network, the documents read. He was also accused of printing nine text-file documents containing protected information originating from reports, according to the filing. Buma allegedly printed screenshots of communications between him and a confidential human source (CHS) on an encrypted app.

Authorities charged Buma with disclosing confidential material, violating Title 18 U.S. Code Section 1905. Federal agents searching his residence discovered he possessed classified FBI information, though they didn’t find all the documents he allegedly printed on his last day at the bureau. Where did those papers go? That’s the million-dollar question.

According to court filings, he was negotiating with publishing firms to release a tell-all book about his 15-year FBI career, complete with confidential information he was legally obligated to protect.

The Spy Who Snitched on Himself

The irony here is thicker than a government budget proposal. Buma spent years pushing the narrative that Trump allies were compromised by foreign powers, specifically targeting former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

“Rudy Giuliani may have been compromised by individuals suspected of being involved in Russian counterintelligence influence operations,” Buma told Business Insider in 2023, painting himself as the brave truth-teller standing up against foreign interference.

Meanwhile, he was allegedly printing classified documents about weapons of mass destruction programs and planning to publish them for personal gain. As they say, those who live in glass intelligence offices shouldn’t throw classified documents.

The Swamp’s Greatest Hits

Buma’s actions don’t exist in a vacuum. They represent a broader pattern within the intelligence community that the Trump administration is now addressing.

Remember the infamous letter signed by 51 former intelligence officials claiming that Hunter Biden’s laptop had “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation”? That letter, which we now know was completely false, helped bury a legitimate news story just weeks before the 2020 election.

Buma was cut from the same cloth, pushing narratives that served political purposes rather than the truth. He suspected the Russian Intelligence Service was “pushing derogatory information into the U.S. Intelligence Community that would give the opposing political party… a narrative to attack the character of [Joe Biden],” according to his statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

In reality, the laptop was authentic – and the Daily Caller News Foundation verified that emails from a Burisma executive to Hunter Biden regarding an introduction to then-Vice President Biden were legitimate.

Trump’s Deep State Cleaning Service

President Trump’s administration is now taking action to clean up the mess left by politically motivated operatives within our intelligence agencies. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard recently announced sweeping measures to hold accountable those who abused their positions.

“Per @POTUS directive, I have revoked security clearances and barred access to classified information for Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan, Lisa Monaco, Mark Zaid, Norman Eisen, Letitia James, Alvin Bragg, and Andrew Weissman, along with the 51 signers of the Hunter Biden laptop letter,” Gabbard announced earlier this month.

Buma’s arrest shows that the days of intelligence community members playing fast and loose with the truth – and with classified information – are finally coming to an end. The tables have turned, and those who weaponized government agencies for political purposes are finally facing the accountability they so richly deserve. It seems the real “Russian assets” were the deep-state operatives we met along the way.

Key Takeaways:

  • Former FBI agent Jonathan Buma, who accused Rudy Giuliani of being “compromised” by Russia, was arrested.
  • He was allegedly attempting to flee the country after resigning from the bureau.
  • Buma allegedly printed approximately 130 confidential files from the FBI’s internal network and was attempting to profit from them through a tell-all book deal.
