What’s Happening:

Sen. Bernie Sanders is hardly the “renegade” people think he is. Although an “independent” the man sides with Democrats on almost every issue. Despite his complaints, he often votes on bills that undermine his so-called values.

But even a blind rat finds the cheese once and a while. And it looks like Sanders is about to defy the Democratic Party in a big way. If he can muster up support from Republicans, this old leftist could shut down a major power Biden is abusing.

Bernie Sanders has introduced a new resolution to cut off US support for the horrific Saudi-led war in Yemen. The measure is a crucial step toward peace — but it will have to be backed up with serious pressure on Joe Biden, so he doesn’t flout the resolution…

If approved and signed into law, the resolution would require President Joe Biden to withdraw several forms of military support for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen…

Unfortunately, based on previous presidents’ record of skirting war powers resolutions, the Biden administration may not heed a congressional entreaty to drop military support for Saudi Arabia.

It appears Bernie Sanders is trying to stop Joe Biden from continuing to support the devastating war in Yemen. The United States got involved in this ugly war during the Obama administration. Biden has continued helping destroy the country by selling arms to Saudi Arabia. Despite Biden’s vow to end conflicts overseas, he’s only helped fame the flames by providing weapons and aid to Saudi and Ukraine.

Funny, isn’t it?

Sanders’ move has greater implications than just this conflict in the Middle East. If he is successful at scaling back Biden’s power here, he can effectively set a precedent that limits his war powers across the board. For years, Congress has tried to shut down presidents’ ability to profit off of conflict overseas.

Yet Democrats are the first to defy limits to the War Powers Act, including presidents like Bill Clinton and Obama. It is unlikely that many Democrats will join Bernie to scale back Biden’s unchecked power. He will have to court support from Republicans, who might gladly build a veto-proof majority.

But will that happen? We have a slim opportunity to shut down Biden’s dictator-like obsession with power. Can Sanders put aside his partisan mania enough to win over Republicans? We’ll see.
