The insanity of leftist ideology never ceases to amaze Americans who hold a rational sense of reality. Blue states and cities have gone off the rails when it comes to initiating their leftist ideals and they don’t care how it affects Americans.
Illegal immigration has become a focal point of leftist concerns, especially after millions of illegal immigrants flooded into the country under the Biden administration. This surge of people with no means to sustain themselves has hit hard in Democrat-run communities that once welcomed them with open arms as sanctuary cities.
One blue city has considered a plan to disobey federal law to provide jobs for illegal immigrants. To do this, Denver city officials would have to rip away work for American citizens to make way for the unlawful support of illegal foreigners.

Even as the city was prepared to put illegals on the payroll, it acknowledges that because of illegals, it may not have enough money to pay its American workers. 9 News reported on Monday that the City of Denver warned its workforce of job cuts, reporting that while the city “says it is NOT laying off employees to pay for the migrant crisis,” it “IS telling hourly employees they may have their hours reduced to zero.”
This open defiance of federal law to harm U.S. citizens was promoted by U.S. Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO). Earlier this month he encouraged local governments to disregard federal law. His suggestion was – at a minimum – that cities should begin issuing their own quasi-work permits to illegal immigrants. These illegal permits would let foreigners work for various employers despite their illegal federal work status.
“If the federal government wants to come down and throw the book at us, we’ll deal with the legal costs,” Hickenlooper told Denver’s 9 News.
Trying to spin this illegal policy by saying it’s not a layoff of Americans but a reduction in hours to “zero” is a slap in the face to hard-working people who pay taxes. Now their taxes could be used to deploy policies that take away their paychecks.
Denver was hit with a budget crisis due to 40,000 illegal immigrants swarming into the city last year. Its resources have been pushed to the brink after Democrat city leaders said anyone seeking sanctuary can arrive and be welcomed. That policy was doomed from the start and city officials were warned of the consequences.
The leftists leading Denver continued to justify their efforts to potentially employ illegal immigrants who have caused the budget crisis.
A spokeswoman for Denver mayor Mike Johnston stated that the idea was to solve the budget crises by having illegal immigrants work directly for the city. She claimed that paying an illegal immigrant a full-time salary funded by taxpayers was “not necessarily” more costly than social services.
The city has not officially instituted the plan because it is considered high-risk, i.e. it is likely illegal under federal law. Denver isn’t the only taxpayer-funded entity in Colorado working to take jobs away from Americans.
Denver Public Schools has shifted attention from teaching students to supporting illegal immigrants. Emails reviewed by The Daily Wire showed that Denver Public Schools (DPS), which is separate from the city, hires foreigners and gives them visas that permit them to be in the country.
The district’s hiring department hosted “ELA-S Hiring Fairs and Visa-sponsored employee welcome events.” The department hosted a “Community Hub” where it discussed “visa sponsorship eligibility” with job seekers, and a “Visa Sponsorship Welcome Night… for all of our DPS visa-sponsored employees.”
The school district has worked with the city, the state of Colorado, and the federal government to help illegal immigrants work. A Denver city official also proposed using DPS buildings for “legal clinics… to help new arrivals apply for Temporary Protected Status and Employment Authorization Documents.”
Colorado residents pay taxes for cities and school districts to take care of fellow residents and teach students. They shouldn’t be paying for illegal immigrants to obtain work visas and job placements in defiance of federal law.
