Big Blue City Makes Shock Proposal – They Might “Cancel” Statues of 3 American Heroes

What’s Happening:

The largest city in the United States is considering toppling statues of three American icons while paving the way for reparations due to “crimes against humanity” by these historical figures. City officials are considering the actions at a time when the migrant crisis and crime continue to take a bite out of the Big Apple’s public service budget.

The New York City council were set to discuss these issues during its meeting today. The council’s Cultural Affairs Committee planned to hold a public hearing on a measure to remove works of art on city property depicting figures like America’s first president George Washington, Dutch governor and New York settler Peter Stuyvesant, as well as Christopher Columbus. All have statues throughout the city.

The committee claims these works of art “depict a person who owned enslaved persons or directly benefited economically from slavery, or who participated in systemic crimes against indigenous peoples or other crimes against humanity.”

Any removals will cost money at a time when the city struggles under extreme budget cuts due to the influx of migrants the city’s mayor says are straining public resources. The strain continues to worsen for city officials and will impact residents.

From Fox News:

NYC Mayor Eric Adams said last week that the influx of tens of thousands of migrants will bring a “financial tsunami” as departments are forced to slash budgets to accommodate the new arrivals.

That tsunami may not beat the landslide of progressive changes the Cultural Affairs Committee is working on in addition to removing statues. If the Public Design Commission (PDC) decides not to remove questionable works of art, Fox News reported, then it would have to provide a public notice about the art, the committee proposed. This would include a plan to install an “explanatory plaque” next to the work of art.

The committee is also targeting public institutions, especially those named after American icons. The proposal would require PDC to work with the Department of Education to install plaques on sidewalks or other public space adjacent to schools named after a person fitting the “crimes against humanity” label.

And the city isn’t stopping there in this latest cultural movement by liberal officials. Also on the agenda is a proposal to create a task force to “consider the impact of slavery and past injustices for African Americans in New York City and reparations for such injustices.”

That is meshed with even more changes that will affect city workers. Other proposals call for anti-racism training for human services contractors and city employees as well as requiring the placement of an information sign near the intersection of Wall and Pearl Streets “to mark the site of New York’s first slave market.”

Looks like the Big Apple is rotting away from the inside out with liberal proposals that could financially destroy the city and directly impact millions of residents.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Big Apple cultural plan could take huge bite out of public funds for the city.
  • Three American icons could be toppled from their public perches.
  • Removing statues and reparations are in the works as NYC budget collapses.
