After Blue State Tries 1 Woke Move – It Backfires on the Snowflakes in Epic Fashion

Under Joe Biden, Democrats have pushed an aggressive, “green” agenda. Making claims about climate change and other disasters, liberals have imposed strict laws in many communities. Many of these changes have had negative impacts on Americans’ lives.

In the state of New Jersey, the government passed a ban on single-use plastic bags. They did this, they say, to reduce the amount of plastic being used.

This forced companies and consumers to scramble to find another alternative. Now, after a few years, the goal of reducing plastic is even farther away. You’ll get a kick out of this.

From Fox News:
Plastic consumption in New Jersey spiked by nearly three times following the state’s implementation of a strict ban on single-use plastic shopping bags, a study found.

“Following New Jersey’s ban of single-use bags, the shift from plastic film to alternative bags resulted in a nearly 3x increase in plastic consumption for bags…”

It didn’t take long, however, until shoppers started airing their grievances to local media that the reusable bags were stacking up in their homes due to repeatedly purchasing reusable bags at the grocery store, or due to home grocery delivery services using new reusable bags each drop-off.

New Jersey banned simple, plastic grocery store bags. This forced consumers to buy reusable plastic bags when they went to the store. The law has resulted in a 3x increase in the use of plastic bags.

Shoppers frequently forgot to bring their bags, forcing them to buy more. The bags kept piling up in their homes. Services that deliver groceries also were forced to use these reusable bags—resulting in customers’ homes overflowing with the things.

It does not seem that the ban has had any positive impact at all. In fact, it looks like the situation is much worse—with plastic bags being used even more. The state seems to be scrambling, considering more rules to put on grocery delivery services.

Critics will compare this law to the ones in other blue states banning plastic straws. Little evidence seemed to prove U.S. straws were harming animals, yet states and companies rushed to ban them. That hasty move did not appear to fix anything—it only upset and annoyed customers.

Key Takeaways:

  • New Jersey passed a law in 2022 banning single-use plastic bags.
  • In the years that followed plastic usage jumped 3x in the state.
  • Customers were forced to buy reusable bags again and again, as they shop.
