Numerous American leaders have weighed in on the sudden and ongoing conflict in Israel. Iran-backed terror group Hamas launched an unprovoked attack, leading to at least 700 dead and many more injured.
Many leaders have issued support for Israel while condemning Hamas’s actions. Congressional leaders and the White House have pledged support. Presidential candidates have also spoken out strongly against Hamas and called for international aid for Israel.
But many are criticizing the responses of several Democrat leaders. Leftists with known anti-Israel leanings have been blasted for seemingly siding with Hamas. But one unlikely Democrat has just issued an alarming comment. And some are calling for her resignation.
From Fox News:
A former Trump-era adviser to the U.S. ambassador to Israel is calling on Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to resign after she “embarrassed herself” while responding to the terrorist attacks on Israel…
“I have been in touch with communities impacted by what’s happening in the region. It is abhorrent. My heart is with all those impacted. We need peace in this region,” Whitmer wrote on X, with no mention of Israel.
“I hosted you for Thanksgiving in Israel just a few years ago. I am embarrassed for you and by you & disappointed that I opened my home and my family to you,” Lightstone responded to Whitmer.
Like several Democrats, Gov. Whitmer appeared to avoid specifically condemning Palestinian terror group Hamas for its murderous actions. Instead, she issued a vague call for “peace.” She did not mention Israel or vow support for the nation.
Former Trump adviser to the U.S. ambassador to Israel condemned Whitmer’s response. Aryeh Lightstone revealed he hosted the governor for Thanksgiving in Israel back in 2019. He said he was “embarrassed” over what Whitmer said and called for her to resign.
Lightstone is currently in Israel, witnessing the war as it unfolds. He said Whitmer’s response was “fraudulent.” He also suggested Whitmer is unable to “know the difference between right and wrong.”
It appears that Democrats are struggling to take a side in the wake of this war. Israel is a nation recognized by the U.N., the United States, and other international organizations. Hamas is a noted terror group, which has vowed to destroy Israel and the Jewish people.
Despite this, Whitmer and other Democrats are either refusing to support Israel or even propping up Hamas. Whitmer attempted to fix her error with a second post, but it might not be enough to appease many angered Americans.
