Days After GOP Gov Makes Woke Move – His Party Gives Him a Nasty Wake-Up Call

The Republican Governor of Ohio shocked the country recently. He vetoed a bill that would have banned transgender procedures on minors. The bill also prohibited biological men from competing in women’s sports—a hot-button issue, these days.

Rumors swirled around the governor’s decisions—particularly when it came out that he received large donations from hospitals that perform these procedures.

The state House previously voted to override the governor’s veto. And now, the state Senate has held a vote regarding this bill. This is what they decided to do.

From Daily Caller:
The Ohio Senate voted Wednesday to override Republican Gov. Mike DeWine’s veto of a bill that would prohibit doctors from performing sex-change medical procedures on minors.

The state’s House of Representatives voted 65 to 28 on Jan. 10 to override the governor’s veto of the bill, which would bar doctors from performing transgender surgeries or prescribing cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers to minors. State senators voted 28 to 4, largely among party lines, to pass the legislation.

Ohio Republicans have successfully defeated a veto from Gov. DeWine. A bill banning transgender procedures on minors will become law. The law will also prevent biological men from competing against biological women in state sports.

When the governor vetoed the bill, he made a statement explaining his stance. He signed an executive order banning transgender surgeries for minors but fell short of banning drugs commonly used on children.

Gov. DeWine claimed the decision to subject children to transgender procedures should be left to parents—perhaps suggesting he was siding with limiting government involvement. But the Republican seemed to overlook the times parents are coerced into agreeing to these procedures—or cases when parents’ wishes are overruled by courts.

Critics pointed out that the governor received $40,000 in donations from state children’s hospitals that support and perform transgender procedures. Some might believe DeWine was protecting his donors—who could be profiting from the transgender movement.

One of these hospitals reportedly has a training video that shows how staff can “work around parental consent” when treating a minor. It is probable that material like this was the motivation for Republicans to step in and prevent these procedures in the state entirely.

Key Takeaways:

  • Ohio Republicans successfully overrode Gov. DeWine’s veto of a transgender ban.
  • State lawmakers voted to pass a bill that bans transgender procedures on minors.
  • The bill, which will become law in 90 days, also bans biological men from competing in women’s sports.
  • Critics accused DeWine of vetoing the bill to protect hospitals who donated to his campaign.
