What’s Happening:
It has been well-documented how major blue cities are facing steep decline. Crime is at all-time highs.
Numerous residents–and businesses–are fleeing. As this is happening, taxes and costs of living keep going up.
One Democrat-run city is set to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. It seems they are too embarrassed to let China’s president see this one glaring problem. So, they are doing this.
From The Post Millennial:
In an effort to conceal its homelessness epidemic during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit that takes place from Nov. 11 to 17, the city of San Fransico cleared out its homeless encampments and established “night ambassadors” to keep them from coming back. President Joe Biden is also expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the summit.
San Francisco is hosting a summit that will see Asian world leaders meet with U.S. officials. President Xi of communist China will also meet with President Biden. According to reports, this event will welcome 20,000 guests and bring in around $50 million to the city.
But before the summit began, the city hastily cleared away its many homeless encampments. Major blue cities, especially those in California, have apparently done little to address the exploding homeless crisis.
Legalized drugs, a refusal to enforce the law, and other economic factors have resulted in massive tent cities forming in these cities. These homeless encampments have shut down local businesses and endanger residents.
But San Francisco has done seemingly little, until the summit. According to reports, the city has cleared away these homeless encampments and is using “night ambassadors” to prevent homeless people from rebuilding them.
One homeless man reportedly claimed police asked him to stay away from the area “for a week.” The city took away his taxpayer-funded cell phone, along with his tent and other possessions.
Critics will no doubt ask why the city hadn’t bothered to do this before, considering the harm these homeless encampments are doing to the city. Progressives have claimed enforcing laws that discourage homeless encampments is “cruel” despite the danger these tent cities pose to residents.
It is unlikely the city will continue this policy once the summit is over. It seems San Francisco is only concerned with impressing their Asian visitors, convincing them the city is much cleaner and safer than it actually is.
Key Takeaways:
- San Francisco has cleared away its homeless encampments prior to a summit.
- Workers cleared away the tents and other items, forcing the homeless to leave.
- This comes as blue cities turn a blind eye to the massive homeless crisis.
