Republicans have long accused Democrats of trying to undermine American rights. It seems that Democrats in many cities and states have proven them right. Democrats have passed laws that restrict Americans’ ability to protect themselves.
And, perhaps, if Democrats had it their way—they’d do much more.
One mayor recently spoke about plans he had to make his city “safer.” It appears to be a radical policy that could cost taxpayers, big time. But while defending it, he made a statement that should have every freedom-love American worried.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas (D) said that if you don’t have metal detectors, “then how can we ever fully be safe in a city, a state, and, perhaps, a country where we know that people are freely walking around with AR-15s, with modified handguns with switches, with any number of issues, or frankly, even just your old classic revolver?” And “If we know that one can act with impunity with that, then it’s hard to say we’ll ever be fully as safe as I think we’d like to idealize ourselves to be.”
Parroting common fearmongering talking points of gun control advocates, the mayor of Kansas City made a wild claim about free Americans. He was discussing the need for metal detectors outside nearly every venue, to prevent someone from entering with a weapon.
He lamented that, at parades, you cannot use metal detectors or other Big Brother-style measures to check every attendee. Mayor Lucas advocated for more police officers shaking down citizens. And he wants to put cameras everywhere.
But he went on to claim that Americans are “freely walking around with AR-15s,” suggesting such a thing was too dangerous. He even went on to say that someone with an “old classic revolver” was dangerous.
In Lucas’s mind, America will never be safe, it seems, unless all guns are eliminated. The Democrat claims the only way we can be “fully safe” is to impose drastic measures that rob Americans of their right to bear arms—and at the same time, take away their right to privacy.
Democrats often ignore the reality that the Second Amendment provides a means for Americans to protect themselves. To the left, the only way we can be safe is through massive, government involvement. Only when every last American is disarmed (and vulnerable to the government) can we be safe—if the left is to be believed.
While Lucus’s dream of a gun-free America sounds far-fetched, it is the goal of most Democrat platforms today.
