Remember when liberal activists demanded that every last statue of American historical figures be torn down? Well, apparently that trend hasn’t gone away. Leftists are determined to erase our history, so they can rewrite it any way they want.

But this time around, they went after one of their own. Democrats in Congress are very proud of a measure they just passed to remove the bust of an infamous Supreme Court justice. However, they conveniently forgot that he was one of them!

The bust of former Chief Justice Roger Taney will be removed from the Capitol building due to his involvement in the Dred Scott decision in 1857 and replaced with Justice Thurgood Marshall, according to a House Bill passed Wednesday.

Taney wrote the majority opinion for Dred Scott v. Sandford when the Supreme Court ruled that citizenship did not extend to enslaved people of African American descent.

We shouldn’t be surprised that Democrats want to remove the bust of a man who ruled that black slaves aren’t American citizens. But it seems they are forgetting–or are trying to make us forget–that this Supreme Court justice was a Democrat.

Roger Taney was the first of a string of Democrat-appointed justices by a Democrat-controlled Senate and Democrat President Andrew Jackson. Even though he freed his own slaves, he tried to shut down the slavery debate with his Dred Scott v. Sandford ruling.

After dying in 1864, he was replaced by a Republican justice by President Ab Lincoln.

We find it pretty hilarious that Democrats are trying to cancel own of their own members. Democrat Rep. David Trone called Taney’s ruling a “stain on our country’s history.” Yet removing his bust won’t change history. And as ugly as some parts of history are, what good is it forgetting it?

This sounds more like a scheme by Democrats to scrub their history. Democrats long fought against ending slavery. And after the Civil War, continued to oppose measures that gave freed slaves citizenship. Even today, Democrat proposals instituted by LBJ and other Democrat presidents have only served to hurt black Americans.

It seems like the removal of this bust is only an attempt by Democrats to hide the fact that they aren’t any good for minorities. Few of their policies help black Americans. Meanwhile, Democrats in D.C. pass laws that enrich the global elite and leave black folks in the dust.

Perhaps we should keep around names like Roger Taney, so we never forget how dishonest Democrats really are.
