It appears the backlash from his decision was fierce. All because he was a black American. Johnson is exposing a sentiment that is all too common in America. Black citizens are expected to support Democrats. Any black person who defies that, who becomes a Republican, is often treated as a traitor.
Johnson hammered the “core” belief of Democrats. He said they believe that a person’s lot in life is “determined by things that are outside your control.” He included a person’s race, neighborhood, and other factors. He said this view “excuses away your failures.”
He explained that, to Democrats, a successful white man is such because of his race. And if a black man is unsuccessful, it is because the “deck was stacked against you.”
