House Speaker Pours Cold Water on Dem Plan – Johnson Says Their Big ‘Deal’ Won’t Happen Unless…

Democrats received the equivalent of a political “Dear John” letter from Republicans. The letter from House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) basically says, “We respect you, but we’re moving another direction.”

Democrats in the Senate have been trying to weave even more unnecessary spending into a new bill. They want more money for their politically motivated domestic and foreign projects. The GOP leader said what they want is not happening.

The fight surrounds Democrats wanting more money to fund border concerns and the Ukraine security package negotiated in the Senate. Johnson told them to read his letter.

From the Washington Examiner:
The letter, obtained by the Washington Examiner Friday morning, claimed Senate negotiations are stalling and that “if rumors about the contents of the draft proposal are true, it would have been dead on arrival in the House anyway.”

Johnson said the White House and Senate need to get on board with “transformative corrections” included in H.R. 2. This is the immigration bill passed by the House in 2023 with support from the GOP majority.

Johnson didn’t stop with pouring cold water on Democrat demands. He also sounded the alert that he plans to move forward, “by necessity,” with bringing articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The plan is for the proceedings to start after the House returns from recess next week.

Johnson’s letter also revealed that he has been direct with Biden in recent calls and meetings. Biden is in a public and legal standoff with Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott over the southern border crisis.

The House speaker ““made clear that we stand with Texas Governor Greg Abbott in his heroic efforts to protect the citizens of his stand and all Americans, and I am emphasizing again today that House Republicans will vigorously oppose any policy proposal from the White House or Senate that would further incentivize illegal aliens to break our laws.”

Johnson’s letter follows recent pressure from some Republicans and former President Donald Trump to reject the latest Senate compromise. Other Republicans have said that improving the situation at the border is a positive step that likely won’t have any impact on the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.

Some could argue that the Democrat deals looks more like it is set up for failure so the liberals can hit the campaign trail screaming about Republicans being the cause of the border crisis. Republicans should hold the line and force-feed every detail of Democrats’ plans to the unsuspecting American public.

Key Takeaways:

  • Republican House leader dashed Democrat hopes with one letter.
  • Johnson said Ukraine money is “dead on arrival” with Senate deal.
  • The House Speaker also warned of starting the Mayorkas impeachment.
