Many Americans might be wondering why crime is so bad in parts of the country. It’s pretty simple. Democrats in blue states have passed radical laws that reward criminals. The most common has been the “defund the police” movement. But many Democrats have also passed laws that put criminals immediately back on the streets.
That includes one blue state that passed sweeping, radical changes to its criminal justice system last year. One of the provisions, going into affect in January, would eliminate cash bail. That would allow dangerous criminals to leave jail while awaiting trial–putting victims at risk.
But thankfully, a state judge just dropped the Constitution on this reckless law.

Kankakee County Circuit Court Judge Thomas W. Cunnington concluded the state legislature “improperly attempted to amend the [Illinois] Constitution” by ending cash bail with the Safety, Accountability, Fairness and Equity-Today Act.
A state judge ruled that eliminating cash bail violated the Illinois constitution. Judge Cunnington knocked down this part of the so-called SAFE-T Act, preventing it from going into effect next month.
If this cashless bail rule had gone into effect, as it has in New York, crime would explode in Illinois. Thousands of criminals who would have been kept in jail until their trials would have been released. Without cash bail, criminals are released almost immediately.
Gee, I wonder what they are going to do then? In some cases, they might run from the law, avoiding trial. In most cases (as we’ve seen in New York), they go on to commit even more crimes. Cashless bail is one of the major reasons we are seeing massive spikes in crime in blue areas.
It has nothing to do with “equity” as the left claims. It only empowers criminals and punishes victims and law-abiding citizens. Democrats refuse to see this because they seem to be blinded by their radical views.
Thankfully, one judge was smart enough to see this. But that doesn’t mean Democrats in Illinois won’t appeal this decision, to make sure every criminal is released.
