President Joe Biden, a self-proclaimed devout Catholic, has long touted his faith as a cornerstone of his personal and political identity. His connection with the Catholic community has been a significant part of his public persona, influencing his stance on various social issues. Of course, that has helped him with Catholic voters, as they like to see someone who shares their faith in the White House.
But that doesn’t really matter anymore, since Biden has dropped out of the 2024 race. Replacing him is Kamala Harris, whose religious affiliations remain to be seen.
Harris is trying to win over the same demographics that backed Joe in 2020. But she can’t exploit Catholicism in the same way Biden did. In fact, it doesn’t look like she can count on any support from this massive religious group. Because a group of Catholics has just dropped a damning accusation on the Democrat candidate.
From Fox News:
The conservative organization CatholicVote.org, a “lay movement of committed Catholics” headquartered in Carmel, Indiana, is calling Vice President Kamala Harris one of the most anti-Catholic politicians ever…CatholicVote president Brian Burch, in an interview with Fox News, said, “Kamala Harris represents the most vile anti-Catholic threat of any leading candidate for president in American history. She is a candidate of the hard left. And her record and her words demonstrate a gross anti-Catholic bias and bigotry.”
Harris: An anti-Catholic Democrat
A group called CatholicVote.org is calling out Harris as “one of the most anti-Catholic politicians ever.” They are spending millions on an ad campaign targeting Catholics in swing states. This group is raising the alarm over Harris’ voting record and policies, which clash with their religious convictions.
The president of CatholicVote called Harris the “most vile anti-Catholic threat” of any candidate in “American history.” That’s quite the distinction. Not really one that Harris or any other Democrat would want, however. Democrats have historically used Catholicism to ride into office, including President John F. Kennedy. But Harris’ history of going after Catholics and their convictions is coming out at the very worst time.
A History of Assaulting Religious Americans
Harris attacked a federal judge nominee in 2018, over his membership in the Knights of Columbus. She blasted the Catholic group because of its pro-life stance, which she used to try to undermine his appointment. Harris also enjoys a “perfect score” with Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the United States (and a major Democrat donor). While she was attorney general of California, Harris helped pass a law that forced pro-life centers to “promote abortion.”
It only gets worse from there. While in Congress, Harris proposed the “Do No Harm” act, which would have forced Catholic doctors to perform abortions. Harris’ aggressive pro-abortion agenda squarely violates the deeply held convictions of millions of Catholics.
The Biden/Harris History of anti-Catholicism
While Biden long exploited his Catholic membership to win votes, he has a long history of violating his church’s doctrines. Biden is a strong supporter of transgenderism, something the Catholic Church has openly rejected. The Democrat is just as staunchly pro-abortion as his vice president, earning him many rebukes from Catholic bishops and leaders.
It’s not a surprise that an “anti-Catholic” like Harris could serve alongside Biden. There appears to be little about Biden’s record that suggests he has Catholics’ interests at heart. Biden was a dyed-in-the-wool leftist who cared more about globalists and socialism than his so-called faith. Had he been a devout Catholic, he would never have picked Harris to be his running mate. And she wouldn’t be in the position she is in now.
Key Takeaways:
- A Catholic group has accused Kamala Harris of being the most “anti-Catholic” candidate in American history.
- They highlighted Harris’ long history of pro-abortion stances, which has put her at odds with Catholic figures.
- Biden claimed to be a devout Catholic, yet his policies were sharply criticized by bishops and church leaders.
