Minnesota Democrats Criticize ICE Operations as Agency Arrests Convicted Child Rapists and Murderers

When Americans elect leaders, they trust those officials to prioritize the safety of their communities. Protecting the innocent—especially children—from violent predators represents the most basic function of government. Call me old-fashioned, but that seems like a reasonable expectation. Yet in Minnesota, Democratic politicians have chosen a radically different path. Governor Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and Representative Ilhan Omar are waging a very public war against the federal agents working to remove dangerous criminals from their streets.

Here’s the question every Minnesotan should be asking: Who exactly are these politicians protecting? The answer will make your stomach turn.

From the Daily Caller:

Despite Democrats’ raging against the agency, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are continuing to arrest illegal migrant child rapists and killers in Minnesota…

“Regardless of staged political theatrics, ICE is going to continue to arrest the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens in Minnesota and elsewhere,” Lyons said in a public statement. “Some of these criminal aliens have had final orders of removal for 30 years, but they’ve been free to terrorize Minnesotans.”

Director Lyons wasn’t playing games. His agency deployed over 2,000 officers to Minneapolis in what became the largest immigration enforcement operation ever conducted in the state. The targets weren’t families. They weren’t workers. They were monsters.

The Criminals Democrats Are Defending

Let’s talk about who these supposed “victims” of ICE enforcement actually are. Brace yourself.

Sriudorn Phaivan, a Laotian national, was convicted of “strongarm sodomy” of both a boy and a girl. Tou Vang, also from Laos, served time for sexual assault and sodomy of a girl under 13 years old. He also procured a child for prostitution. Chong Vue raped a 12-year-old girl and kidnapped another child with the intent to sexually assault her.

These aren’t isolated cases. Pao Choua Xiong was convicted of rape and fondling a child, and has had an outstanding removal order since 2003. For over two decades, this predator walked free in Minnesota while bureaucrats shuffled paperwork and politicians looked the other way.

The arrests extended beyond child predators to convicted killers. Gilberto Salguero Landaverde, a Salvadoran national, was convicted of homicide not once, not twice, but three separate times. How does someone with three homicide convictions avoid deportation? Mariama Sia Kanu from Sierra Leone has two homicide convictions on her record. Thai Lor has two homicide convictions and a removal order dating back to 2009.

Fifteen years. That order sat there for fifteen years.

Democratic Outrage—at Law Enforcement

So how did Minnesota’s Democratic brain trust react to federal agents hauling away child predators and triple murderers? Take a wild guess.

Mayor Jacob Frey held a press conference and declared, “I have a message for ICE: Get the fuck out of Minneapolis. We do not want you here.” Classy. Governor Walz compared ICE agents to the “Gestapo” and called enforcement efforts “reckless.” Representative Ilhan Omar appeared at protests and accused agents of coming “to terrorize, abduct and deport” immigrants.

Notice what’s missing? Any condemnation whatsoever for the men who sodomized children. Zero reflection on why convicted killers with decades-old removal orders remained in their communities. Their fury was reserved exclusively for the officers enforcing the law.

Vice President JD Vance issued a blunt warning: “Arresting and deporting these people is absolutely critical to national security. National Democrats are going to get our law enforcement killed if they don’t stop lying about this issue.”

Sanctuary for Predators

ICE officials didn’t hold back, stating that Walz and Frey are “encouraging this behavior with their rhetoric of lawlessness, while their sanctuary policies continue to ensure that the worst of the worst criminal alien offenders flock to their state in a vain attempt to escape justice.”

The logic is painfully simple. When local authorities refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement, criminals with deportation orders know exactly where to hide. Minnesota declared itself a sanctuary. Predators took them up on the offer.

The choice facing Minnesotans couldn’t be starker. On one side stand federal agents removing convicted child rapists and murderers from neighborhoods and schools. On the other stand Democratic politicians are screaming profanities and demanding those agents leave immediately. Every parent in the Land of 10,000 Lakes deserves to know whose side their elected leaders have chosen.

Spoiler: it isn’t yours.

Key Takeaways

  • ICE arrested convicted child rapists and murderers in Minnesota, some with removal orders dating back 20-30 years.
  • Democratic officials including Walz, Frey, and Omar publicly attacked ICE rather than condemning the predators arrested.
  • Sanctuary policies transformed Minnesota into a safe haven for violent criminal illegal aliens evading deportation.
  • Over 2,000 federal officers deployed in the largest immigration enforcement operation in state history.
