The left often calls out President Donald Trump for his choice of words. They routinely point to the President’s occasionally bold language, and accuse him of being “un-presidential.”
But while condemning Trump’s brashness, Democrats sometimes don’t realize they’re using similarly offensive language. And recently, it happened during a live interview.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was on CBS News on Friday, where she made several questionable remarks.
In fact, host Gayle King had to stop Pelosi and remind her that in fact, she might be guilty of the same issue: using insulting language when referring to the opposition.
King first asked Pelosi whether or not Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden should debate Trump next week.
Instead of answering, Pelosi decided to go after Trump:
.@SpeakerPelosi on why she thinks Biden shouldn’t debate Trump: “The president has no fidelity to fact or truth, and actually in his comments the last few days, no fidelity to the Constitution … He and his henchmen are a danger with their comments, are a danger to our democracy" pic.twitter.com/xWso2rYcpR

The president has no fidelity to fact or truth, and actually in his comments the last few days, no fidelity to the Constitution.
He and his henchmen are a danger with their comments — are a danger to our democracy. Why bother? He isn’t committed to the Constitution.
King quickly halted Pelosi and replied:
But Speaker Pelosi, here’s the problem. Your language, to some, is just as egregious as what they’re saying, by calling the president’s people ‘henchmen.’
Some could say that’s just as insulting as what he’s saying about you.
Pelosi then said she doesn’t care what Trump says about her. But King’s point had been made, and Nancy didn’t seem interested in clarifying or apologizing for her choice of words.
This follows hot on the heels of a press event, where the Speaker made an even stranger claim:
“He is trying to have the Constitution of the United States swallow Clorox.”
Asked of her plan if Trump won’t recognize a Biden victory, Pelosi says, she has "a pretty good idea of the method of his madness" and it's "stunning" how "complicit" GOP are. https://t.co/mRWa6yO6vC pic.twitter.com/RSJQj5qWWI

He’s trying to have the Constitution of the United States swallow Clorox.
That’s difficult to prove or even defend, and it left many scratching their heads.
It does appear, in this case, that Pelosi doesn’t have a problem making highly questionable claims, and also doesn’t care which language she uses in referring to Trump and his followers.
But as King said, that’s part of the problem.
Trump can be loud and even abrasive but we’ve seen recent examples of similar language from Democrat leaders.
And things are bound to get even more heated as we inch closer toward November…
- Nancy Pelosi called Trump’s supporters “henchmen,” and got called out by CBS News’ Gayle King for “egregious language.”
- The Speaker is also on record saying she thinks Trump is “trying to have the Constitution of the United States swallow Clorox.”
- These questionable and potentially insulting remarks appear hypocritical. Democrats like Pelosi often accuse Trump of similar offenses.
