The 2021 Capitol riot became an obsession for politicians wanting to punish anyone associated with the infamous event. The Democrat-run former House Select Committee on Jan. 6 focused on anything related to the chaos and branded former President Donald Trump the leader of the so-called “insurrection.”
Thousands of hours of video and large amounts of data related to Jan. 6 were collected by the committee. After the committee concluded its investigation and report all information was supposed to be transitioned under GOP control in 2023 after Republicans took back the House majority.
A new report exposed Democrats for failing to abide by that transition. Four terabytes of data were meant to be turned over to the House Administration Committee’s Oversight Subcommittee. What Republicans ended up with was far short of all the files related to the Jan. 6 investigation.

The former House Select Committee on Jan. 6 reportedly deleted 117 files containing “critical information” … more than 100 files were encrypted and purged from hard drives and the committee only received two terabytes of data.
Republican Chairman Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) was supposed to receive all the data for the committee. But sources reported that 117 files were deleted on Jan. 1, 2023, right before the transition of power following the midterm elections. Loudermilk sent a letter to the former Jan. 6 chairman asking for access to the files that were encrypted.
“One recovered file disclosed the identity of an individual whose testimony was not archived by the Select Committee,” Loudermilk wrote. “Further, we found that most of the recovered files are password-protected, preventing us from determining what they contain.”
Loudermilk wants answers and set a Jan. 24 deadline for receiving passwords for all the password-protected files created by the Select Committee. He also requested that the White House general counsel and the general counsel of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) meet the same deadline. He wants “unedited and unredacted transcripts” of White House and DHS testimony given to the former select committee to be delivered to his committee.
Democrats wanted everything about the Jan. 6 Capitol event to be revealed to the public. Now it appears they plotted to hide much of what they discovered. This makes people question their reporting on the event and any conclusions.
Congress at every stage should default to transparency so the public can see how the government is operating. Everything the government does should focus on an end result that benefits the people, not the politicians.
