The Biden family keeps getting exposed by Republicans for actions that could lead to the president’s impeachment. The GOP-led House Oversight Committee released more information detailing how Hunter Biden was able to avoid prosecution while people close to him were sent to jail.
This is an ongoing and disturbing pattern where the president of the United States is implicated in complex schemes surrounding the business dealings of his family. At every turn of the investigation, clues indicate that Joe Biden is connected to a potential abuse of his position in office or alleged criminal activity.
This week, Republicans revealed more insight into how Hunter Biden was allegedly using his father’s name and power to thwart a criminal investigation. GOP leaders on the committee said the president’s son used his dad’s name in a 2016 probe.
From Fox News:
House Republicans say Hunter Biden “gratuitously” used his father’s role as vice president in an effort to “discourage” further scrutiny in a 2016 U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigation involving his business associates and their entities, Fox News Digital has learned.“The confidential nature of this investigation is very important to our client and it would be unfair, not just to our client, but also to his father, the Vice President of the United States, if his involvement in an SEC investigation and parallel criminal probe were to become the subject of any media attention,” Hunter Biden’s attorney wrote on April 20, 2016.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said that, “concerningly,” Hunter Biden’s attorney reminded in his response that his father was the sitting vice president.
The revelation follows findings from the committee related to an SEC Enforcement Division investigation of a tribal bond scheme, where several individuals were charged with violating federal securities laws. Several of Hunter Biden’s business associates and inter-connected entities were implicated by the alleged conduct, according to a letter from Comer and Jordan to the SEC.
All the information disclosed by the House committee falls under the ongoing impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden. Comer and Jordan are demanding all documents between the SEC and the White House, including the Office of the Vice President, and all documents related to entities and persons related to the SEC investigation that includes Hunter Biden.
“In short, the records sought by this request are critical to the impeachment inquiry,” Comer and Jordan wrote in their letter to the SEC.
Key Takeaways:
- House Republicans claimed Hunter Biden used his dad’s role as VP to “discourage” the SEC.
- The accusation is related to a 2016 investigation of Hunter’s business associates at the time.
