Former President Trump (R) and President Biden (D) tied for second place, with each coming in at 44 percent of respondents viewing them to be favorable.
This is really bad news for Joe Biden. The incumbent president is favored worse than a newcomer, someone who has never held office before. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has a 49 percent favorability rating in this YouGov poll.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden only has 44 percent. On top of that, Kennedy has a net favorability rating of 19 points, meaning more people like him than dislike him. Biden, meanwhile has a net favorability of -9. Not a winning number.
If this trend holds, Kennedy could surge in the Democratic primary polls. If he polls high enough, Democrats won’t be able to ignore him. They’ll have to allow him to debate Biden or at the very least, give him room on the ballot.
But what if Democrats ignore this challenge from RFK? It could be much worse for them. Voters might reject Biden in protest. Or, RFK might mount a third-party campaign, stealing votes from Joe.
The one thing we do know is this: the more popular Kennedy gets, the worse it will be for Biden.
