What’s Happening:
It is possible that the controversy surrounding Donald Trump accelerated Ron DeSantis’s 2024 plans. The man has been coy about his possible presidential run. But in recent days, he seems much more open, talking the way a candidate would.
Not that long ago, he criticized Biden’s endless bankrolling of the Ukraine war, saying it was a “territorial dispute.” Trump and others criticized his comments. But now, the Florida governor is making no bones about his views. And he’s gunning for old Putin.
From The Post Millennial:
In a new interview, Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis called Vladimir Putin a “war criminal” and demanded the Russian president be “held accountable” for his invasion of Ukraine…
The Florida governor called the Russian dictator a loser who is “basically a gas station with a bunch of nuclear weapons.”
DeSantis pushed back against critics who seemingly “mischaracterized” his previous statements about the Ukraine-Russian war. He said that the “territorial dispute” was over land that Russia did not legitimately control.
He went on to slam Vladimir Putin, calling him a loser who must be held accountable. But he also said that it might not be in America’s best interests to “escalate more involvement.” He might be right. Biden’s constant bankrolling of the war is only infuriating Russia. Putin is joining forces with other nations, including China and Iran.
The more Biden foolishly prods Russia, the more likely we will be dragged into a much larger conflict. Ukraine is not a NATO member, so our involvement can only be limited at best. But Biden seems hellbent on turning this conflict into a global war.
No American leader should support such a move.
DeSantis appears to be going out of his way to clarify his previous comments. Why does he care about what critics say–if he is only concerned with the well-being of Florida? This is one of the clearest signs that the man intends to run for president.
Currently, Trump is leading the GOP pack, although most people named in the polls aren’t even running. If and when DeSantis does jump into the fray, those numbers might change overnight.
Key Takeaways:
- DeSantis pushed back on critics who slandered his comments on the Ukraine war.
- The governor called Putin a loser and said Russia must be held accountable.
- This comes as speculation is high that DeSantis intends to run for president.
