Texas Democrats believe they’ve finally found their silver bullet—a fresh-faced seminarian who speaks the language of faith while delivering progressive victories. James Talarico, who just clinched the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, has been turning heads with his unusual pitch: a Bible-quoting millennial who promises to fight for “freedom, family, and faith.” For a party desperate to crack the Texas code, he seems almost too good to be true.

And frankly, he is.

Talarico defeated Rep. Jasmine Crockett on March 3rd to claim the Democratic nomination for the seat currently held by Sen. John Cornyn. Kamala Harris, who had initially backed Crockett, wasted no time switching her endorsement. The enthusiasm is real—Beto O’Rourke declared that “Texas will save the country” if Talarico wins in November and becomes the 51st vote in the Senate.

But as Talarico positions himself as a man of faith who can bridge divides, a document from his past tells a very different story.

Federal Buildings, Federal Abortionists

In June 2022, days after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Talarico fired off a letter to President Biden that reads like a progressive fever dream. His proposal wasn’t merely to protect abortion access—it was to transform the federal government into an abortion provider operating inside Texas, deliberately circumventing laws passed by elected state legislators.

From Talarico’s letter to President Biden:
On behalf of my constituents, I urge you and your administration to consider taking the following executive actions to protect the right to an abortion: Leasing federal property to abortion clinics on federal lands or in federal offices; prohibiting states from imposing restrictions on abortion medication through the Food and Drug Administration; hiring abortion providers as federal employees to provide immunity from state lawsuits.

I had to read that twice. A sitting Texas legislator asked the federal government to hire abortionists as employees specifically to shield them from Texas law. He wanted abortion clinics in federal courthouses—noting that the GSA manages over 800 such facilities in Texas alone. This wasn’t policy disagreement. This was a blueprint for federal occupation of state sovereignty.

Scripture as a Shield

Nice try—but the seminary credentials don’t hold up under scrutiny either. On Joe Rogan’s podcast, Talarico claimed the Bible is essentially “pro-choice” because the angel asked Mary’s consent before the Incarnation. “Creation has to be done with consent,” he argued. “You cannot force someone to create.”

Shouldn’t a seminarian know better? Mary’s fiat was consent to conceive, not permission to destroy. Talarico conflates welcoming life with ending it—a distinction any theology student should grasp. But then, he learned abortion activism from his mother at Planned Parenthood long before he learned Scripture. The collar came later.

Why November Matters

Here’s what Texas Christians need to understand: this man isn’t seeking common ground. He’s a radical who believes federal power should override Texas voters, who twists Scripture to justify abortion, and who would hand Democrats their tie-breaking Senate vote.

Look, the GOP must hold this seat—not just for Texas, but for the balance of power defining the next two years. Talarico’s seminary training doesn’t change what he is. It just makes him more dangerous.

Texans have seen wolves before. They know exactly what to do.

Key Takeaways

  • Talarico urged Biden to open abortion clinics in federal buildings and hire abortionists as federal employees to evade Texas law.
  • The Democratic Senate nominee twists Scripture to justify abortion, claiming Mary’s consent to conceive supports “choice.”
  • Beto O’Rourke called Talarico the potential “51st vote”—making this seat critical for Senate control.
  • Texas Christians should see past the seminary credentials to the lifelong abortion activist underneath.
