Trump Seeks to Reverse Biden Blunder, Calls for Keystone XL Pipeline to Be Built

America sits on an ocean of energy. We have more oil, natural gas, and coal than most nations could dream of possessing. But for four years, Americans watched as their energy bills soared and gas prices hit record highs.

It didn’t have to be this way. While families struggled to afford basic necessities, the Biden administration seemed determined to wage war on American energy production. His “climate agenda” was really just a prosperity-killing machine that left working Americans holding the bill.

President Trump is now calling for the company that was building the Keystone XL Pipeline to return to America and “get it built — NOW!” The project was halted by the Biden administration on his first day in office, costing thousands of workers in both Canada and the United States their jobs with nothing but empty green promises to show for it.

From ‘The Post Millennial’:

“Our Country’s doing really well, and today, I was just thinking, that the company building the Keystone XL Pipeline that was viciously jettisoned by the incompetent Biden Administration should come back to America, and get it built — NOW!”

In his Truth Social post, Trump made it clear his administration would be taking a drastically different approach than his predecessor. “I know they were treated very badly by Sleepy Joe Biden, but the Trump Administration is very different — Easy approvals, almost immediate start!” Trump wrote.

He even suggested that if the original company wasn’t interested, “perhaps another Pipeline Company” could take on the project, emphasizing, “We want the Keystone XL Pipeline built!”

A Political Football Since 2008

The Keystone XL project has been tossed around like a political football since it was first proposed in 2008. President Obama blocked it during his tenure, then Trump revived it during his first term.

Biden killed it again during his first day in office with an executive order in 2021. Democrats block, Republicans build – it’s a pattern as predictable as the sunrise.

The $9 billion pipeline was designed to transport 830,000 barrels of oil per day from Alberta, Canada, to refineries in states like Illinois and Texas. It would have been completed in early 2023 and created tens of thousands of new jobs across both countries. That’s tens of thousands of families who could have been thriving instead of struggling.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has expressed enthusiasm about working with the Trump administration to finish the project. On X, she wrote that she agreed the project “should have never been scrapped in the first place,” adding, “Let’s also scrap these inflationary tariff ideas and focus on getting shovels in the ground right away!”

Original Company Has “Moved On”

The company originally tasked with building the pipeline, TC Energy, has already spun off its oil pipeline business into a new company called South Bow Energy.

And South Bow has made it clear they’re no longer interested – a testament to how thoroughly Biden’s policies poisoned the well.

“We’ve moved on from the Keystone XL project,” said South Bow spokeswoman Katie Stavinoha. The company is instead focusing on “options to increase Canadian oil supplies to meet growing demand” through other means. Apparently, once bitten by the Biden administration, twice shy.

TC Energy is currently seeking to recover more than $15 billion from the U.S. government for the cancellation of the project. This massive financial hit came after Biden revoked the permit that Trump had approved in 2017. Taxpayers potentially on the hook for $15 billion – just another Biden “achievement” to clean up.

America’s Energy Future at Stake

Trump’s push to revive the Keystone XL pipeline comes at a time when his administration is focused on achieving American energy dominance.

By increasing domestic production and strengthening partnerships with allies like Canada, Trump aims to reduce dependence on foreign oil from hostile nations.

The pipeline revival also presents an interesting contrast with Trump’s recently threatened 10% tariff on Canadian crude oil. This has left some energy experts questioning the administration’s ultimate goal for North American energy cooperation.

As James Coleman, an energy law professor at the University of Minnesota, put it: “The big question is: what does the administration really want?”

Some analysts suggest Trump’s pipeline comments might be a response to Canada considering an Energy East pipeline that would reduce Canadian dependence on U.S. markets.

Key Takeaways:

  • Trump is calling for the revival of the Keystone XL Pipeline that Biden killed on his first day in office.
  • The pipeline would bring 830,000 barrels of oil daily from Canada to U.S. refineries and create tens of thousands of jobs.
  • Republicans support pipeline for energy security and jobs while Democrats opposed it on environmental grounds.
