In a dramatic showdown that had liberals clutching their pearls, Wisconsin’s legal establishment launched a desperate last-minute maneuver to stop Elon Musk from handing over million-dollar checks to everyday Americans. Democratic Attorney General Josh Kaul raced to the state’s Supreme Court with an emergency filing, practically begging the justices to block what he claimed was an illegal attempt to influence voters in the state’s pivotal judicial election. It’s amazing how quickly Democrats can locate their concerns about “election integrity” when it might hurt their chances at the ballot box, isn’t it? I don’t know about you, but I find their selective outrage absolutely fascinating.
The state’s liberal establishment was practically hyperventilating at the prospect of Musk engaging with regular Wisconsin voters at his scheduled Sunday town hall in Green Bay. But would the state’s highest court—currently controlled by a 4-3 liberal majority—side with their ideological allies and shut down the billionaire’s event? The desperate filing asked for a decision “as soon as possible but no later than the planned event on Sunday evening.” Talk about cutting it close! Nothing says “we’re terrified of what might happen” quite like an emergency weekend court filing.
Kaul was absolutely beside himself in the filing, claiming that Musk’s planned giveaway violated state election laws. “Wisconsin law prohibits offering anything of value to induce anyone to vote,” the Democrat argued. “Yet, Elon Musk did just that.”
Let me tell you what’s really going on here. The panic was palpable. After all, what could be more terrifying to the liberal establishment than a high-profile conservative pumping resources into a judicial race that could flip the ideological control of Wisconsin’s highest court? The state’s Supreme Court is expected to rule on everything from abortion rights to congressional redistricting in the coming months—decisions that could affect control of the U.S. House and even the 2028 presidential election.
And the total spent on this race? A whopping $81 million and counting—making it the most expensive judicial election in American history. Something tells me Democrats weren’t complaining when their side was writing checks. Isn’t it remarkable that the party of “billionaires are bad” only applies that rule to conservative ones? I’ve seen this playbook before, and it never changes.
A Unanimous Rebuke
You’re not going to believe this. In a stunning decision that surely sent shockwaves through the offices of the Democratic Attorney General, the Wisconsin Supreme Court unanimously rejected Kaul’s attempt to block Musk from giving away the money. Yes, you read that right—even the liberal justices couldn’t find a legal justification to stop the billionaire’s giveaway. I nearly spilled my coffee when I read the decision!
The court gave no rationale for its decision, which must have been quite the blow to Kaul’s ego. Imagine rushing to court with what you believe is an airtight legal argument only to have the court essentially respond with, “Nah, we’re good.” The silence speaks volumes about the weakness of the Democrats’ legal case. This is rich, even by Democrat standards.
While Kaul had no immediate comment on the court’s rejection (probably too busy licking his wounds), Musk’s attorneys maintained in court filings that the payments were “intended to generate a grassroots movement in opposition to activist judges, not to expressly advocate for or against any candidate.” A distinction that apparently made all the difference to the court.
Cheese Heads and Big Checks
Taking the stage in Green Bay wearing a yellow foam cheesehead hat (because when in Wisconsin…), Musk gave out $1 million checks to two Wisconsin voters, declaring them spokespeople for his political petition against activist judges. Now that’s what I call putting your money where your mouth is! The left’s meltdown over Musk’s cheese hat diplomacy would be comical if the stakes weren’t so high.
“The reason for the checks is that, it’s really just to get attention,” Musk explained while holding a gigantic novelty check that would make even game show hosts jealous. “It’s like, we need to get attention….somewhat inevitably, when I do this….it causes the legacy media to, like, kind of lose their minds.”
And lose their minds they did! The pearl-clutching from mainstream media outlets was exactly as predicted. Heaven forbid a wealthy conservative use his resources to drive attention to important judicial races that typically fly under the radar. You’ve got to be kidding me if you think this is about “election integrity” rather than pure political panic.
One of the lucky recipients was Nicholas Jacobs, who happens to be the chairman of the Wisconsin Federation of College Republicans. Good for him! I’m sure that detail had the Democratic Party’s opposition researchers pulling all-nighters trying to find some way to discredit him. The other recipient was Ekaterina Diestler, another Wisconsin voter who signed the petition against activist judges. I wonder if the media will dig into her background with the same ferocity they reserve for anyone associated with conservative causes.
What’s Really at Stake
Musk didn’t mince words about why this race matters so much. “The House majority is now razor thin,” he told the crowd in Green Bay. “And if the (Wisconsin) Supreme Court is able to redraw the districts, they will gerrymander the district and deprive Wisconsin of two seats on the Republican side. Then they will try to stop all the government reforms we are getting done, for you the American people.”
And there it is—the real reason Democrats are so desperate to maintain control of the court. With the slim Republican majority in the House, every seat counts. A liberal-dominated Wisconsin Supreme Court could redraw congressional districts to flip two seats from red to blue, potentially tipping the balance of power in Washington and derailing President Trump’s agenda. Let’s be real – this isn’t about “election integrity” but about who controls the levers of power.
So as Wisconsin voters head to the polls on Tuesday, April 2, 2025, they face a clear choice: a court that respects the separation of powers and the rule of law, or one that will continue to legislate liberal policies from the bench. And thanks to Elon Musk—cheese hat and all—they’re paying attention. No wonder the left is so terrified.
